Within the last year, California passed a ban on the sale of ozone generators. Ozone generators have been sold in the past under the pretense that they purify the breathing air in a home, office or car. Marketing strategies for these devices have targeted the population with breathing difficulties, claiming to alleviate symptoms by improving air quality. The significant levels of air pollution in some areas of California has created a huge demand for air purifiers and many Californians have fallen into the trap of purchasing ozone generators in order to reduce the levels of irritants and pollutants in their indoor air.

However, the public has been deceived. Ozone is in fact a dangerous gas that can cause, rather than alleviate, breathing difficulties. Ozone has been linked to a number of respiratory issues including respiratory tract irritation. Ozone generators have also caused asthma attacks in people with existing respiratory difficulties. The harsh reality of the situation is that any ozone emitted from an air purifier would have to greatly exceed public-health standards in order to effectively eliminate any significant amount of contaminants from the air in a home.

The California Air Resources Board voted to ban purifiers that emit more than 0.05 parts per million of ozone. All existing models must pass tests and be certified for sale in the California market by the CARB. Any model exceeding ozone emission regulations must have a warning label that indicates potentially dangerous levels of ozone emission. The California Air Resources Board has generated a list of potentially harmful air purifiers that emit levels of ozone that exceed the recent regulation. This list will be updated periodically as new ozone level offenders are discovered. This is the first law of its kind in the nation.

The good news is that not all air purifiers are harmful. Californians wishing to provide clean and safe breathing air for their loved ones are not left without options. One of the most effective and affordable options for personal air purification is an air purifier with a medical grade HEPA air filter. These air purifiers are commonly used in hospitals. They are natural, safe and incredibly efficient. Medical grade HEPA air filters remove a minimum of 99.97% of all airborne particles greater than or equal to 0.3 microns in diameter. These air purifiers trap and prevent the re-circulation of contaminants and respiratory tract irritants back into the air that you breathe. HEPA filters remove such common air pollutants as dust, pet dander, mold spores, pollen, bacteria, dust mite allergens, soot and even viruses.

A HEPA air purifier helps provide natural relief for those who suffer from allergies or asthma, as well as those experiencing other forms of respiratory distress. If you are in the market for an air purifier, make sure that you have all the facts. Don’t purchase a device that will harm more than it helps. Get an air purifier that will expertly remove air impurities and provide comfort and peace of mind to you and those you love.
