Our shower filter features the patented dechlorinating filter media KDF-55. KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) media is proven to be many times more effective than carbon for removing chlorine. As chlorinated water flows through the filament within the shower filter, the dissimilar metals in KDF (70% copper and 30% zinc) create a galvanic or electrolytic reaction which causes the two chlorine ions to combine with a zinc ion to form a harmless chloride. KDF does not hold the chlorine. This amazing technology converts the chlorine from an element into a non-toxic, biodegradable compound. KDF is also bacteriostatic (inhibits reproduction), and tends to reduce or eliminate fungus and mildew build up in the shower. KDF converts the problem into a solution.
